The Discraft Avenger SS is a 10-speed very understable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 10 / 5 / -3 / 1, it is most often described as suited for beginner-friendly distance drives, backhand and forehand rollers.
Overview
The Discraft Avenger SS is a 10/5/-3/1 very understable distance driver — the Super Straight variant of the original Avenger.[1] Discraft markets it as a 'distance driver for the rest of us,' combining long glide, easy control, and a smooth, gentle finish.[1] With -3 turn, the Avenger SS is a forgiving distance option for developing players and a dedicated turnover and roller tool for advanced throwers.
Flight characteristics
Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.
Recommended uses
Beginners use the Avenger SS as a primary distance driver because its understable nature compensates for moderate arm speed.[2] Advanced players reach for it for rollers, big anhyzer flex shots, low flip-up shots, and tailwind drives.[1] Available in ESP, Z, ESP FLX, Titanium, and limited Big Z, CryZtal, and Z Glo blends.[2]
Best for:
- Beginner-friendly distance drives
- Backhand and forehand rollers
- Big anhyzer turnover shots
- Tailwind drives

Plastics & variants
The Avenger SS is available in the following plastic blends from Discraft:[1]
ESP, Z, ESP FLX, Titanium, Big Z, CryZtal, Z Glo
Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.
History
The Avenger SS was PDGA approved on February 21, 2008, with certification number 08-04.[3] The original Avenger, a more stable mold, helped Nate Doss win the 2005 Pro World Championships, and Discraft introduced the Super Straight ('SS') variant to capture the more glidy, understable distance market.[2] The Avenger SS quickly became more popular than its parent mold and has remained a staple beginner-friendly distance driver.[2]
