The Westside King is a 14-speed stable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 14 / 5 / -1 / 4, it is most often described as suited for maximum-distance backhand drives for moderate-to-strong arms, long s-curves on flat releases.

Overview

The Westside King is a 14-speed distance driver — Westside Discs' flagship maximum-distance mold and one of the fastest discs in their lineup.[1][3] Westside lists its flight numbers as 14/5/-1/4,[1] though community reviewers consistently note the King flies less overstable than those numbers suggest, with many players treating it as closer to 14/5/-2/2 in stock plastic.[2][3] The result is a fast driver with strong distance potential and a fairly gentle finish, well suited to power S-curves and hyzer-flip distance lines.[2]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The King is at its best on long, flat backhand drives where you want the disc to flex and recover into a long S-curve, on hyzer-flip lines where it flips to flat and rides, and on tailwind drives where its modest fade lets it carry farther.[2][3] VIP is Westside's premium translucent plastic and the long-lasting stock option; Tournament is slightly less stable by design and often the flippier choice; Origio is the budget recycled run; VIP Moonshine is a glow-in-the-dark premium blend.[1][4] The King tends to turn over aggressively in headwinds, so most players reach for it in calm or downwind conditions.[2]

Best for:

  • Maximum-distance backhand drives for moderate-to-strong arms
  • Long S-curves on flat releases
  • Hyzer-flip distance lines
  • Tailwind power shots

Plastics & variants

The King is available in the following plastic blends from Westside:[1]

VIP, Tournament, Origio, VIP Moonshine

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The King was PDGA-approved on November 16, 2010 (certification number 10-36) as part of Westside Discs' early distance-driver lineup.[5] Westside is part of the Trilogy group of Swedish-Finnish brands alongside Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs, and the King has been one of Westside's best-known high-speed molds since launch — described by the manufacturer as 'the farthest flying disc' in their line and designed to give average players a full-flight experience on the course.[1][3]
