The Dynamic Discs Slammer is a 3-speed very overstable putt & approach. With published flight numbers of 3 / 2 / 0 / 3, it is most often described as suited for overstable approaches that need to fade hard and stop (200–250ft), forehand utility upshots.

Overview

The Dynamic Discs Slammer is a very overstable putt-and-approach disc with manufacturer flight numbers of 3 / 2 / 0 / 3.[1][2] It features a distinctive thumbtrack on the top flight plate, a flat top, and a beadless rim,[2][3] giving it a comfortable power-grip feel for a putter-class mold. Reviewers consistently compare its flight to the Westside Harp and Discraft Zone, and its in-hand feel to a beefier Latitude 64 Caltrop.[3] The disc is built to fight wind and finish with a strong, reliable fade — Disc Golf Puttheads called it 'one of the most robust overstable putters' they had thrown.[2]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Slammer is at its best on approaches in the 200–250ft range that need to fade hard and stop with minimal skip,[1] on forehand utility upshots,[2] and as a wind-fighting driving putter for power throwers who can load a stiff overstable rim.[2] It resists flipping at high power even on near-flat releases.[2] Classic plastic is the standard baseline grip; Classic Blend adds a touch more durability; Prime is the cheapest entry blend; Lucid is the premium translucent run for long wear; Lucid Moonshine is the glow option.[3] Anhyzer flex lines are not the disc's strength — its moderate glide and high fade pull it back early.[2]

Best for:

  • Overstable approaches that need to fade hard and stop (200–250ft)
  • Forehand utility upshots
  • Headwind approach shots
  • Driving putter for power throwers who need wind resistance
  • Spike-hyzer and skip approach shots

Plastics & variants

The Slammer is available in the following plastic blends from Dynamic Discs:[1]

Classic, Classic Blend, Classic Burst, Classic Soft, Prime, Lucid, Fuzion, Lucid Moonshine

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Slammer was PDGA-approved on January 28, 2017 (certification 17-12).[4] It was designed as Dynamic Discs' answer to the Zone-style overstable-approach category and slotted alongside the Westside Harp (a 2013 release in the same Trilogy lineup) as the brand's go-to utility-approach mold.[2][3] Dynamic Discs later collaborated with two-time PDGA World Champion Ricky Wysocki on a separate, more overstable signature mold — the Sockibomb Slammer — which was PDGA-approved on April 4, 2022 with its own distinct flight characteristics and is a different disc from this original Slammer.[5] As of this writing the original Slammer is listed as out of production by major retailers, with the Sockibomb Slammer effectively replacing it in the current lineup.[3] Dynamic Discs is part of the Trilogy group alongside Latitude 64 and Westside Discs.
