The Innova Stud is a 3-speed slightly overstable putt & approach. With published flight numbers of 3 / 3 / 0 / 2, it is most often described as suited for point-and-shoot fairway approaches inside 200 feet, straight, controlled tunnel shots in the woods.
Overview
The Innova Stud is a shallow, torque-resistant driving putter with a 3/3/0/2 flight — a straight-flying approach disc with a dependable, gentle fade.[2][3] IsaacSam frames it as 'a more stable version of the Colt' that 'flies like a less glidey version of the Classic Roc,' giving it a point-and-shoot finish that resists turning over under power.[1] Its low glide and reliable late fade make it a confidence disc for approaches and short tee shots where stopping the disc on line matters more than carry.[2] The PDGA approved the Stud on January 20, 2016.[3]
Flight characteristics
Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.
Recommended uses
The Stud shines on controlled approaches inside 200 feet and short tee shots up to roughly 275 feet, where its straight flight and modest fade keep the disc online without big skips.[2] Use it for point-and-shoot fairway approaches, tunnel shots in the woods that demand a flat, predictable line, and gentle forehand or backhand finishes.[2] Newer players will see a mostly straight flight with a soft fade, making it an approachable utility putter rather than a long-range driving putter.
Best for:
- Point-and-shoot fairway approaches inside 200 feet
- Straight, controlled tunnel shots in the woods
- Short tee shots up to ~275 feet
- Forehand and backhand finishes that resist turnover

Plastics & variants
The Stud is available in the following plastic blends from Innova:[2]
DX, XT, Star, Champion
Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.
History
Innova released the Stud in 2016 and PDGA-approved it on January 20 of that year (certification 16-07).[3] IsaacSam describes it as the 'studly brother of the Colt' with added stability, noting it flew too similarly to the Colt to build a large following and went out of regular production fairly quickly.[1] Reviews were positive even so, and Innova has continued to produce limited runs, making it easy to find for players who want one.[1] IsaacSam identifies Nathan Queen as the most prominent pro to bag the Stud.[1] It carries a 21.2 cm diameter, a 1.9 cm height, a 1.1 cm rim, and a PDGA maximum weight of 176.0 g.[3]
