The MVP Switch is a 6.5-speed understable fairway driver. With published flight numbers of 6.5 / 5 / -1.5 / 1, it is most often described as suited for straight, long-carrying drives for low-power throwers, smooth controlled turnovers and anhyzer lines.

Overview

The MVP Switch is a slightly understable fairway driver that MVP positions as a neutral complement to the Servo.[1] On MVP's own scale it carries flight numbers of 6.5/5/-1.5/1, placing it in the 16.5 mm fairway-driver class with a lower power requirement and more controllable speed.[1] Its extended GYRO overmold and understable profile produce smooth, controlled turnovers with a delayed, minimal fade.[1] Low-power throwers get a very straight flight that carries a long time with a small penetrating fade, while medium- to high-power throwers see a reliable turnover, a long glide phase, and a straight finish.[1][3]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Switch excels as a low-power straight driver, on smooth controlled turnovers and anhyzer lines, and through tight, wooded fairways where accuracy beats raw distance.[1][3] Its minimal fade lets it finish straight rather than hooking left, and its glide makes it an easy hyzer-flip disc that flattens out and rides.[1] MVP calls it a novice player's dream for covering most fairway needs.[1] Neutron and Proton are the durable premium blends, Electron is the grippy baseline, and Fission is the lightweight microbubble option for added glide.[1]

Best for:

  • Straight, long-carrying drives for low-power throwers
  • Smooth controlled turnovers and anhyzer lines
  • Tight, wooded tunnel fairways
  • Hyzer-flip lines that flatten out and glide
  • Beginner distance with forgiving control

Plastics & variants

The Switch is available in the following plastic blends from MVP:[1]

Neutron, Proton, Electron, Fission

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Switch was PDGA-approved on February 10, 2014 (certification 14-08).[2] It was part of MVP's 16.5 mm fairway-driver class introduced as a lower-speed, higher-control alternative to wide-rim drivers, sitting on the understable side of the more stable Servo and Resistor.[1] Built around MVP's signature GYRO dual-material overmold, the Switch has been offered across the brand's Neutron, Proton, Electron, and Fission plastics.[1] Note that MVP rates its discs on an in-house scale; the Switch's 6.5 speed corresponds roughly to a 7–8 speed on the more common Innova-style scale.[1]
