The Kastaplast Vass is a 12-speed stable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 12 / 5 / -1.5 / 2, it is most often described as suited for long, smooth s-curve distance drives, tailwind bombs on open holes.

Overview

The Kastaplast Vass is a high-speed distance driver rated 12/5/-1.5/2, made for long, smooth S-curves and tailwind bombs.[1] Kastaplast says it shares some of the Grym's DNA but stands on its own: a 22 mm rim combined with the brand's smooth plastic gives a comfortable grip, and the sharp profile delivers a fast flight with a short, controlled fade at the end.[1] It works as a big distance driver for the common player or a turnover hang glider for bigger arms.[1]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Vass suits intermediate and experienced players hunting controlled distance. Its moderate turn and strong glide let intermediate arms hyzer-flip it for maximum carry, while advanced players use it for precise S-curves, turnover distance lines, and tailwind drives with a predictable finish.[1][3] The rim releases cleanly on forehands as well, making it a versatile main distance driver rather than a specialist.[3]

Best for:

  • Long, smooth S-curve distance drives
  • Tailwind bombs on open holes
  • Hyzer-flip distance lines for intermediate arms
  • Turnover distance shots for bigger arms

Plastics & variants

The Vass is available in the following plastic blends from Kastaplast:[1]

K1, K1 Glow, K1 Hard

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Vass was PDGA-approved on May 8, 2023 (certification 23-135), joining Kastaplast's Swedish lineup as a faster, more workable complement to its existing distance molds.[2] Kastaplast positions it as a descendant of the Grym with its own identity, aimed at long S-lines and tailwind distance.[1] It is produced in K1, K1 Glow, and K1 Hard plastics,[3] and Kastaplast has issued team-series editions of the mold, including a Jesse Nieminen Tour Series K1 Hard Vass.[4]
