The Innova Boss is a 13-speed overstable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 13 / 5 / -1 / 3, it is most often described as suited for maximum-distance power drives, max-distance hyzer drives.
Overview
The Innova Boss is a 13/5/-1/3 overstable distance driver and was Innova's first Speed-13 mold.[1][2] PDGA approved on August 26, 2008,[3] the Boss was at release — and arguably still is — the farthest-flying disc in disc golf: the current world-distance record of 1108 feet was thrown with a Boss.[2][4] The Boss has a notably wider rim than the Destroyer, which translates to more potential distance for throwers who can fully load the speed.[1]
Flight characteristics
Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.
Recommended uses
The Boss is at its best on flat power drives where the thrower can reach cruise speed, big-arm headwinds, max-distance hyzer drives, and forehand distance lines.[2] IsaacSam notes the Boss was designed as a faster Destroyer and is known to run slightly less stable than the Destroyer.[1] Star Bosses beat in well for veteran players; Champion plastic holds its overstability for years; lightweight R-Pro and Blizzard Champion variants are the choice for max-distance attempts.[2]
Best for:
- Maximum-distance power drives
- Max-distance hyzer drives
- Power forehand drives
- Headwind shots for big-arm throwers

Plastics & variants
The Boss is available in the following plastic blends from Innova:[2]
DX, Pro, R-Pro, Champion, Star, GStar, Halo Star, Blizzard Champion
Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.
History
The Boss was PDGA approved on August 26, 2008,[3] making it Innova's first 13-speed distance driver.[1][2] Originally designed as a faster, slightly less stable Destroyer,[1] the Boss quickly became disc golf's marquee distance disc. In 2012, a 16-year-old David Wiggins Jr. broke the longstanding 2002 Sandstrom distance record with an 836-foot toss using a lightweight Boss.[1] Simon Lizotte then set a new mark of 863.5 feet on October 25, 2014, with a 157g Blizzard Champion Boss in Primm, Nevada,[4] and again to 903.9 feet in March 2016 — though that record stood for only two days before Wiggins Jr. responded with a 1108.9-foot (338m) throw using an R-Pro Boss,[5] which remains the disc golf distance world record.[2] According to IsaacSam, the Boss was Alex Russell's tour series disc and was briefly David Feldberg's signature disc; Ricky Wysocki also threw it historically.[1] Calvin Heimburg currently bags a Halo Champion Boss.
