The Discraft Focus is a 2-speed stable putt & approach. With published flight numbers of 2 / 2 / -1 / 2, it is most often described as suited for controlled short approaches that hold their line, windy and forehand touch shots.

Overview

The Discraft Focus is a beaded putt-and-approach disc with a small-class rim and a stable, point-and-shoot flight. Third-party databases list it around 2 / 2 / -1 / 2, while Discraft assigns it a stability rating of 0.5, placing it just on the slightly overstable side of neutral.[1][3] The bead and modest glide give it a dependable, low-floating finish that holds an aimed line and resists turning over on firm releases.[3][4] Its short rim and tacky feel make it easy to grip and control on touch shots, and it is one of Discraft's more overstable straight-flying putters.[4][5]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Focus shines on controlled approaches and putts where a predictable, no-nonsense finish matters — short upshots, windy approaches, and forehand touch shots all suit its stable-to-slightly-overstable profile.[3][4] It is offered in grippy Putter Line and Pro D as well as durable Jawbreaker and ESP blends, so players can match feel to conditions.[1][4] Backhand and sidearm players alike use it as a workhorse approach disc; it is not a long-range driving putter and will not float past the basket.[3]

Best for:

  • Controlled short approaches that hold their line
  • Windy and forehand touch shots
  • Putting with a stable, beaded feel
  • No-turnover upshots on firm releases

Plastics & variants

The Focus is available in the following plastic blends from Discraft:[1]

Putter Line, Pro D, Jawbreaker, ESP

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Focus traces its origins to Discraft's 2009 Ace Race promotional event, and the PDGA lists the "Focus (Ace Race 2009)" as approved on September 9, 2009 under certification number 09-20.[2] PDGA figures record it at 21.1cm diameter, 2.1cm height, a 1.6cm rim depth, a 1.0cm rim thickness, and a maximum weight of 175.1g.[2] After its Ace Race debut it entered Discraft's regular catalog as a beaded putt-and-approach option, sitting on the overstable side of the brand's putter lineup alongside the Magnet and Zone.[1][3] It has since become a signature disc for Discraft pro Anthony Barela, who has used it as a primary putter and approach disc, and Discraft has released it in numerous plastic blends and tour-series editions.[1][4]
