The Innova Polecat is a 1-speed stable putt & approach. With published flight numbers of 1 / 3 / 0 / 0, it is most often described as suited for short, straight approaches that hold your release angle, placement shots on tight, low-ceiling holes.
Overview
The Innova Polecat is a speed-1 putt and approach disc rated 1/3/0/0 — about as straight as a disc flies.[1] Innova calls it a point-and-shoot putter that flies flat and straight and takes and holds the angle of release regardless of speed, making it equally suited to pros and beginners.[1] Its grippy plastic and easy release have made it a favorite of players crossing over from Ultimate, freestyle, or backyard catch.[1] Reviewers note it is one of the straightest-flying discs available and has become something of a cult classic for accurate, no-surprises approaches.[3]
Flight characteristics
Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.
Recommended uses
Reach for the Polecat on short, straight approaches and placement shots where you want the disc to track your release angle and not fade away.[1] Its low speed and modest glide make it a controllable distance putter and a friendly tee disc on tight, short holes.[3] Available in grippy DX (150–175g) and the firmer, more durable R-Pro (165–175g),[1] it suits beginners learning a repeatable putting stroke as well as pros wanting a dead-straight upshot disc.[1]
Best for:
- Short, straight approaches that hold your release angle
- Placement shots on tight, low-ceiling holes
- A controllable distance putter for slower arms
- A first putter for beginners and Ultimate crossovers

Plastics & variants
The Polecat is available in the following plastic blends from Innova:[1]
DX, R-Pro
Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.
History
The Pole Cat was PDGA-approved on January 5, 1994 (certification number 94-01) and is listed by the PDGA in its Vintage Class.[2] It is one of Innova's long-running low-speed putters, built around a wide 21.3 cm diameter and a narrow 0.7 cm rim that give it a comfortable, plate-like feel in the hand.[2] Over three decades it has earned a reputation as a beginner-friendly first putter and a crossover disc for Ultimate players, while remaining in production in DX and R-Pro plastics.[1] Innova team player Nate Sexton has described it as 'a straight flying putt and approach disc perfect for people who come from a background in Ultimate, Freestyle, or even a backyard game of catch.'[1]
