Overview

The Innova Vulcan is a high-speed (13) understable distance driver designed for less-powerful players who want to reach big distance.[2][3] Its 13/5/-4/2 flight produces a long, sweeping turnover line and an easy hyzer-flip; Innova describes it as similar in flight to the Katana but with less low-speed fade.[2] IsaacSam sums it up neatly: take a Roadrunner and stretch out the rim, and you have a Vulcan.[1] It is one of Innova's lightest distance drivers — available down to roughly 130g in Blizzard plastic — which helps put that distance within reach of slower arms.[2][3]

The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

Reach for the Vulcan on maximum-distance turnover and anhyzer drives, hyzer-flip lines that stand up and ride, and long-range rollers — both IsaacSam and Innova highlight its roller pedigree.[1][2] Lighter Star and Blizzard weights help lower-power throwers add distance.[2][3] Avoid it in a headwind, where its understable nature flips it over hard; IsaacSam warns that 'bad things happen.'[1]

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Vulcan was PDGA-approved on December 9, 2010.[2] IsaacSam frames it as Innova's third attempt at an understable, beginner-friendly speed-13 driver and judges the effort a success — the disc became popular because it let players chase distance.[1] Innova positioned it alongside the Katana as a fast disc with old-school turnover angles, and team players Ken Climo and Alan Beaver praised how it let them throw easy lines at high speed.[2] IsaacSam notes the FPO field embraced the Vulcan, with Jessica Weise among its throwers, and that power players such as Ricky Wysocki have used it for long roller shots.[1] The Champion-plastic Vulcan was later re-rated to 13/5/-3/2 to reflect its more stable flight in that premium blend.[2] IsaacSam suspected the newer Shryke would eventually push the Vulcan and Katana toward retirement.[1]
