The Innova Colossus is a 14-speed stable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 14 / 5 / -1 / 3, it is most often described as suited for maximum-distance drives on wide-open fairways, tailwind bombs.

Overview

The Colossus is a Speed 14 maximum-distance driver — Innova's first disc to break the Speed 13 barrier.[1][2] Its 14/5/-1/3 flight pairs a manageable high-speed turn with a reliable fade, and Innova rates the less-stable GStar version separately at 14/5/-2/3.[2] Despite the wide 2.5 cm rim, it is regarded as relatively comfortable to hold and throw both backhand and forehand.[2][3] It is honest about its demands: Innova notes that players need roughly 375 ft of power or more to experience the smooth, predictable high-speed turn the mold was designed around.[2][4]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

This is a disc for wide-open holes and downwind days — Innova lists max distance, tailwind drives and long open fairways as its best uses.[2] Big arms can throw full flex lines or long hyzer-flips that ride the Speed-14 glide,[4] and the relatively comfortable wide rim makes it a viable power forehand option.[2][4] Slower arms should look elsewhere or drop to the 150-class Star weights: underpowered, it flies like a fast, fading Destroyer.[1][2]

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Colossus was PDGA-approved on December 9, 2015 (certification 15-80) as Innova's first 14-speed driver.[3] Innova's previous 'first N-speed' discs — Firebird, Beast, Wraith, Destroyer, Boss — had all been hits, but IsaacSam records that the Colossus never really caught on: it is essentially a faster Destroyer, and most players lacked the power to get it up to speed, so Innova shifted production toward the easier GStar blend and eventually to occasional factory-store batches, with lighter-weight copies finding a niche among FPO players.[1] It also arrived after other brands had already fielded 14-speeds, denying it the 'fastest disc' cachet.[1] Innova's current product page nonetheless lists stock Star, GStar and Champion runs.[2]
