The Discraft Punisher is a 12-speed overstable distance driver. With published flight numbers of 12 / 5 / 0 / 3, it is most often described as suited for high-power backhand distance drives, forehand power shots needing a reliable fade.

Overview

The Discraft Punisher is a very fast, overstable distance driver with flight numbers of 12 / 5 / 0 / 3 and a stability rating of 1.7 on Discraft's scale.[1] Discraft describes it as a driver that 'performs best with lots of power behind it,' delivering extra glide on both backhand and sidearm throws and a consistent, dependable fade into the target.[1] Reviewers describe it as a max-distance driver that slots between the Crank and the Force in stability while challenging both on distance.[4] Its high-speed stability and reliable finish make it a wind-fighting power driver for stronger arms.[1][3]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Punisher is built for high-power distance drives, headwind and tailwind tee shots, long sweeping hyzers, and forehand power shots that need a consistent fade.[1] It rewards arm speed, so it suits advanced players who can bring a 12-speed up to full flight.[1] It is offered across Discraft's plastic tiers: budget Big Z, durable Elite Z, grippy ESP that beats in slightly understable, and the firm-but-grippy Titanium blend.[1][4] Lower-power throwers will find it too overstable to reach full distance.[3]

Best for:

  • High-power backhand distance drives
  • Forehand power shots needing a reliable fade
  • Headwind tee shots
  • Long sweeping hyzer lines
  • Overstable utility off the tee for strong arms

Plastics & variants

The Punisher is available in the following plastic blends from Discraft:[1]

Big Z, Z (Elite Z), ESP, Titanium

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Punisher was PDGA-approved on April 21, 2017 (certification 17-69) and released as part of Discraft's summer 2017 lineup.[2][4] It measures 21.1 cm in diameter with a 1.5 cm height, a 2.2 cm rim, and a maximum weight of 175.1 g.[2] Discraft, founded in 1979 and based in Wixom, Michigan, positioned the Punisher to fill the gap between its Crank and Force distance drivers, giving power throwers an overstable 12-speed with extra glide.[1][4] It has since been featured in numerous tour-series and Ledgestone limited-edition runs in ESP plastic.[4]
