The Discmania Sensei is a 3-speed stable putt & approach. With published flight numbers of 3 / 3 / 0 / 1, it is most often described as suited for putting at the basket, straight, controlled upshots and approaches.

Overview

The Discmania Sensei is a low-speed, neutral-flying putt-and-approach disc with flight numbers of 3/3/0/1.[2][3] It flies straight at higher speeds and offers a dependable, gentle fade as it slows, making it a versatile all-purpose putter for both putting and throwing.[2][3] Part of Discmania's value-priced Active line, it is comfortable in the hand and forgiving enough for newer players while remaining useful for controlled approaches.[2]

Flight numbers describe the published behavior of the disc when thrown at its design speed. Real-world flight varies with plastic, weight, age, and thrower power. The community-averaged numbers above reflect crowd-sourced observations from real throws — typically slightly more understable than the manufacturer's published values, which is the most consistent pattern across nearly every commercial mold.

The Sensei works as both a putter at the basket and a straight throwing putter for short, controlled upshots.[2][3] Its neutral flight and modest fade make it well suited to beginners learning to throw a putter on a predictable line, and to touch approaches where you want the disc to glide straight and settle with only a slight finish.[3] It is a control disc rather than a distance approach disc.[2]

Best for:

  • Putting at the basket
  • Straight, controlled upshots and approaches
  • Beginners learning a neutral throwing putter
  • Touch shots where a gentle, predictable fade is wanted

Plastics & variants

The Sensei is available in the following plastic blends from Discmania:[2]

Active, Active Premium, Active Premium Glow

Plastic blend significantly affects flight character. Premium plastics like Champion, Z, or C-Line generally fly more overstable when fresh and hold their stability over time. Base plastics like DX, Pro, or Active beat in faster and become more understable workhorses with use.

History

The Sensei was PDGA-approved on December 5, 2019 (certification 19-78), originally certified under the name Guardian Lion before being released as the Sensei in Discmania's Active line.[1] PDGA records list it at a 21.3 cm diameter, 2.3 cm height, 1.4 cm rim depth, and a 1.0 cm rim, with a maximum weight of 176.8 g.[1] It is produced in baseline Active, premium Active Premium, and glow Active Premium plastics, positioning it as an affordable, approachable putter within the wider Discmania lineup.[2][3]
